Recently, I have designed a Power BI report with different visualizations. To filter the values on the report, I added a Slicer visual to it. If the Slicer consists of too many items, such as Project Names or Product names, etc., this helps to filter the values. It will take time to find the specific value by scrolling the bar.
Instead, you can use the search box to search and filter the text easily. Fortunately, the search option is present on the slicer visual, but we need to enable it.
In this tutorial, I will cover the Power BI Slicer search box.. As well as, I will also explain:

- Change Font Color in Slicer Search Box Power BI
- Remove the Search Box in Slicer Power BI
Enable Search in Slicer Visual Power BI
In Power BI, Slicers are one type of visualization that can be used to filter or separate the data by slicing the data that needs to be displayed on the Power BI report page.
When you add a slicer visual to the Power BI report view, the slicer visual will appear without a search box by default. You can have a look at the image below:

Check the simple step below to enable the search box in Slicer:
- Select the Slicer visual and click on the three dots (…) for more options. Select Search.

- Then, you will see the Slicer visual will be added with a search box in Power BI.

Set Search Box Size in Slicer Visual Power BI
There is no option to resize the search box in the Power BI Slicer.
The screenshot below shows the Slicer Search box in Power BI:

If we increase the size of the slicer item values, then the search box size also increases.
You can increase the size of the Slicer items’ values by:
- On the Power BI report view, select the slicer visual.
- Navigate to the Visualizations pane.
- Then, click on “Format your visual icon,” which displays a paintbrush.
- Next, expand the ‘Values‘ option.

- Inside the Values section, increase the Font size by entering a number or clicking the upward arrow.

Output:
You can then see that, now, the Power BI Slicer search box size has been increased.

Power BI Slicer Search and Select All
I will show you how to add the Select All option under the search box in the slicer list item values.
Note:
The select all option select all the values in the slicer so that you can unselect them to create an “isnot” type filter.
Currently, Power BI does not support searching for text in a search box and selecting all the results that match the search.
We can auto-check the slicer values by toggling the ‘Select all’ option in the slicer settings.
See the steps below:
- On the Power BI report view, select the slicer visual.
- Go to the Visualizations pane.
- Expand Slicer settings -> Selections -> Toggle on ‘Show all‘ option in the slicer.

This will show the slicer by selecting all the values and filtering the report based on all the item values.

Then, search for relevant filter results in the slicer, and these displayed results are selected by default.

When you unselect a value from the slicer items, the report will be filtered based on the remaining values.

Change Font Color in Slicer Search Box Power BI
Here, I will show you how to change the font color in the slicer search box in Power BI.

To change it, you need to follow these steps:
- Select the Slicer visual present on the Power BI report canvas.
- Go to the Visualizations pane and select ‘Format your visual icon’.
- Expand Values. Select the ‘Font color‘ under the Values section. Choose the font color according to your preference.
Refer to the screenshot below to modify the Font color:

Output:
Now, type any text in the search box. You can see that the font color of the search box has been changed.

Remove the Search Box in Slicer Power BI
Let me show you how you can remove the search box in Power BI Slicer.
When you enable the search option, a search box will be added to the slicer, allowing you to search for text within a list of items.
To remove the slicer search box:
- On the Power BI report view, select the slicer visual
- Then, click on more options (…), and unselect ‘Search’.

Result:
The image below shows Power BI Slicer without a Search Box.

This is how to add and customize a search box to a slicer visual in Power BI.
