Visual Studio Community Edition is a free, fully-featured IDE designed for students, open-source contributors, and individual developers. This tutorial will guide you through the download and installation process and highlight the advantages of using the Community Edition.
Also, I will explain previous versions of community editions, such as Visual Studio 2019 Community edition.
System Requirements for Visual Studio 2022
Before downloading Visual Studio 2022 Community Edition, ensure your system meets the minimum requirements:
- Windows 10 version 1909 or higher, or Windows 11
- 4GB RAM (8GB or more recommended)
- 2GB available hard disk space (recommended on SSD)
- 1.8 GHz or faster processor (multi-core recommended)

Download Visual Studio 2022 Community Edition
Navigate to the Visual Studio Community download page. And click on the Download Community 2022 edition as shown below.

This will download the Visual Studio Installer, which manages the installation process.
Visual Studio 2019 Download and Installation
You can follow the same steps if you want to use any previous version of Visual Studio, such as Visual Studio 2019. The installation steps are the same for the newer version. So, you can follow the same steps for VS 2022.
I will show you how to download, install, and update Visual Studio 2019 in Windows 11.
Visual Studio 2019 is the best integrated development environment (IDE) to date, and it has many new features. It allows you to code faster and work smarter.
Visual Studio 2019 provides options for starting from the end. You can develop, analyze, debug, test, collaborate, and deploy.
You can develop with the entire toolset from initial design to final deployment. It has improved IntelliSense performance for C++ files, Local development with many common emulators, etc.
You can manage with GitHub from Visual Studio 2019.
You can download the previous versions of Visual Studio.
Visual Studio 2019 is available for Windows and macOS.
Visual Studio 2019 comes with three editions:
- Visual Studio 2019 Community (Visual Studio Community 2019): The Visual Studio 2019 Community Edition is free for students, open-source developers, and individual developers. It is a fully featured IDE.
- Visual Studio 2019 Professional (Visual Studio Professional 2019): The Visual Studio Professional 2019 edition is for small teams. It also includes a full-featured IDE.
- Visual Studio 2019 Enterprise (Visual Studio Enterprise 2019): Visual Studio 2019 Enterprise is for large organizations or enterprises. Organizations with more than $1 million in annual revenue or more than 250 PCs are considered enterprises.

Visual Studio 2019 System Requirements
Below are the system requirements for Visual Studio 2019.
Operating System:
- Windows 10 version 1703 or higher: Home, Professional, Education, and Enterprise (LTSC and S are not supported)
- Windows Server 2019: Standard and Datacenter
- Windows Server 2016: Standard and Datacenter
- Windows 8.1 (with Update 2919355): Core, Professional, and Enterprise
- Windows Server 2012 R2 (with Update 2919355): Essentials, Standard, Datacenter
- Windows 7 SP1 (with latest Windows Updates): Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, Ultimate
Hardware requirements:
- 1.8 GHz or faster processor. Quad-core or better recommended
- 2 GB of RAM; 8 GB of RAM recommended (2.5 GB minimum if running on a virtual machine)
- Hard disk space: Minimum of 800MB up to 210 GB of available space
Install Visual Studio 2019
From Visual Studio 2017, Microsoft provides the Visual Studio installer to install Visual Studio 2019/2017.
You can also select which components you want to install.
After the .exe file download is complete, we can double-click and run the application, asking to continue by agreeing to Microsoft’s licenses.

By clicking on continue, the Visual Studio installer fetches all the files and prepares to install.

After the files are downloaded, it starts unpacking and installing.

Here, you can select the components you want to install.

After setting out all the required tools components and language it starts downloading the files and starts installations. Click on Install.
Once the installation is over, it will ask to reboot. Reboot, and then you can use Visual Studio 2019.
Update Visual Studio 2019
By using the same Visual Studio installer, we can update Visual Studio 2019.
Search for a Visual Studio installer on your local system. You can see below:

If the Visual Studio installer is not updated, then it will first update the Visual Studio installer.

Once the installer updates successfully, it will show you the updates available for Visual Studio 2019.
As you can see below, my Visual Studio version was 16.4.3, and it is showing the update available as 16.5.4.

Once you click on Update, the required files will be downloaded and installed.

Then you can see that Visual Studio 2019 was updated successfully.

Visual Studio 2019 for Mac
Microsoft also released Visual Studio 2019 for Mac. With Visual Studio 2019 on Mac, you can develop apps and games for iOS, Android, and web using .NET.
Visual Studio for Mac supports C#, F#, Razor, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, XAML, and XML.
It also supports advanced IntelliSense.
Visual Studio Mac does not support Python, SQL Server data tools, Node.js, WPF, Windows Forms, Mobile, or game development using C++.
