In this Power BI article, I will explain what a funnel chart in Power BI is and when to use a funnel chart in Power BI.
Also, we will discuss how to create a funnel chart in Power BI, how to add tooltip in Power BI funnel, and funnel visualization Power BI with various examples.
Also, we will cover:
- Power BI sales funnel

Funnel Chart Power BI
What is a funnel chart in Power BI?
A Power BI funnel chart is an ideal visualization for showing a sequential process with interconnected stages.
It’s often used to monitor the progression of job applicants through phases such as Application > Screening > Interview > Assessment > Offer.
The funnel’s unique shape provides an overview of the efficiency of the process being tracked.
Each stage of the funnel represents a proportion of the whole, typically decreasing in size from the initial stage to the final one.
When to Use Funnel Chart in Power BI
Here, we will see when to use a funnel chart in Power BI.
A funnel chart in Power BI is the best choice for:
- Visualize the progress of sequential data across a minimum of 4 stages.
- Items on the chart should have a higher amount in the initial stage than in the final stage.
- Estimate potential, such as revenue, sales, deals, etc., across different stages.
- Monitor and analyze conversion and retention rates effectively.
- Identify and address bottlenecks within linear processes effectively.
- Monitor the workflow of a shopping cart

Now, when hovering over any section of the Power BI funnel chart, you can see the Cogs and profit value along with some other data for each category.

- In Power BI Desktop, load the data using the Get Data option.
- Once you have the data, we will create a funnel chart, for this, select the funnel chart from the visualization pane.
- You can see the blank funnel chart in the canvas.
