I will show you here, how we can create a private SharePoint Online site as well as I will show you how we can create a public SharePoint Online site.
Then finally, we will see, how to change the SharePoint site from private to public. Once you make a site public, anyone in your organization can access the SharePoint site.
Create private SharePoint site
- Login to Microsoft 365 using your SharePoint credentials -> Select Office365 App Launcher and then click on the Admin.
- Select Show all options and then you can able to see the SharePoint option under Admin centers. Select the option SharePoint.
- To create a site Click on the + Create site.
- Select Team site or Communication site.
- Enter Name of the SharePoint site, and we can also add description which is optional.
- We can also edit by selecting Edit option and add the site address or group email address.
- Select the group as public or private. To create a private SharePoint site choose the Private option.
- Choose a default language for the SharePoint site and then select Next.
- Enter Owners and Members of the SharePoint Group. And then click on Finish.
The Private SharePoint site will be created and ready for use in a few seconds.

Create a public SharePoint site
Now, let us see, how we can create a public SharePoint site that can be accessible by everyone in the organization.

- Open the SharePoint Online site, and click the Settings Gear Icon.
- Select Site Information.
- Scroll down until you see Privacy Settings and change from Private to Public, or vice versa. And then Select Save button.
