In this SharePoint online blog we will discuss how to resolve the error: your organization’s policies don’t allow you to share with these users. go to external sharing in the office 365 admin center to enable it. This error comes while trying to share site collection with external users in SharePoint online office 365. Recently we created a new site collection in SharePoint and tried to share with external users but we got the above error.
Let us first discuss about the SharePoint online external sharing feature. As a organization lots of time, you need to share documents or information with external users apart from your internal users. Those external users may be your clients, partners, vendors or customers etc. SharePoint online provides a very good feature known as external sharing features which allows to share content with people outside your organization. You can check an SharePoint online tutorial on: SharePoint Office 365 Sharing with External Users
We also need to understand what are external users? An external user are users outside of your Office 365 subscription. There are two kind of external users:
1- Authenticated users: These users will have an Microsoft account, school account or they will have an account from another Office 365 subscription. These users can do basic collaboration tasks even if you can share sites or documents the same way we share to internal users.
2- Anonymous users: Anonymous users are users who have a shareable link to a folder or document and can view or edit the document or upload to the folder (depending on the type of link) without having to log in with a username or password.
These users will not be able to access sites, you can not access licenses to these users. They can only view or edit the specific document or folder for which they have an anonymous access link.
We have to enable external sharing at tenant level as well as at site collection level of each site collection.
Without enable external sharing at tenant level if you will try to share to external users at site collection then you will received the error: your organization’s policies don’t allow you to share with these users. go to external sharing in the office 365 admin center to enable it.
There are various options for sharing like:
– Don’t allow sharing outside your organization
– Allow sharing only with the external users that already exist in your organization’s directory
– Allow external users who accept sharing invitations and sign in as authenticated users
– Allow sharing with all external users, and by using anonymous access links
To resolve the “your organization’s policies don’t allow you to share with these users’, we need to enable external users sharing at office 365 tenant level. Follow below steps:
First open Office 365 Portal Admin page and login with your account.

Then in the Admin center page, Expand Admin centers from the left side and click on SharePoint to open the SharePoint Admin center like below:
Then in the SharePoint admin center, select the particular site collection url and then click on Manage and then click on Sharing like below:
This will open the sharing dialog box, here choose the appropriate option, here I have choosen “Allow sharing with all external users, and by using anonymous access links” like below:
