We will discuss, What is SharePoint saved for later web part and why we use the save for later web part, and also how to display the saved post or news from the current SharePoint site using the Saved for Later web part in our SharePoint modern site page and we will see a few examples based on the modern SharePoint online environment.
The saved for later web part is not available in the SharePoint Server 2019.
What is the SharePoint Online Saved for later web part?
- Microsoft provides a Saved for Later web part to pin favorite pages from the current SharePoint Online site.
- The saved for Later web part allows us to pin the pages, documents, and news posts and view them later on the SharePoint site or SharePoint Mobile App.
- In the browser, we can save only the news posts and pages using Saved for later web part, We cannot save documents as saved for later in the browser view.
- Only in the SharePoint Mobile App, we can save the documents using the save for later ribbon, and also we can save news posts and pages for later in the SharePoint mobile App.
- We can easily save and view the Saved posts, news, or documents in the modern SharePoint Saved for later web part.
- For Guest users, saved for later is not Supported. It is possible for them to select save for later ribbon, but the selected item will not be saved.

How to add Saved for later web part in SharePoint online
Let us see how to add Saved for later web part in modern SharePoint sites,
- Go to the modern SharePoint site page where you want to add a Saved for later web part to the SharePoint site page.
- Choose Edit Page at the top right of the SharePoint site page.
- Select + circled icon then add a new Section layout.
- In the search box, enter the Saved for later and select the saved for later web part.
You can see Saved for later web part is added as shown below, In addition, we can add the title to the Saved for later web part SharePoint online. Here we can view the saved items.

How to save for later in the SharePoint Online
Let us see how to save the news posts and site pages to save for later and display them in Modern SharePoint Saved for later web part.
Steps to save news post for later in Modern SharePoint
- Open the Published SharePoint Online site page, Select the News posts that you want to save, and view it later.
- Select the Posted News and Scroll down to the news post where we can see Save for later ribbon option. Click on that ribbon to save the news post.
- In this example, I am going to Choose the Status Report news posts to save for later.
- Now when we select the Save for later option, it will display the Recently Saved items.
- We can also select the See all saved items to view all saved items from the SharePoint site.
- In the Below the screenshot, we can see that the Status Report is added.

Steps to save the Site pages for later in Modern SharePoint
- Open the Published SharePoint site page, Select the site page that you want to save, and view it later.
- Scroll down the site page where we can see Save for later ribbon option. Click on that ribbon to save the site page.
- In this example, I am going to select WebParts Examples site pages to save for later.
- Now when we select the Save for later option, it will display the Recently Saved items.
- We can also select the See all saved items to view all saved items from the SharePoint site.
- Now, in the below screenshot we can see that the WebParts Examples is added.

Configure the Saved for later web part in SharePoint online
Let us see how we can edit and configure the Saved for later web part in modern SharePoint.
Now, in the Saved for later web part we can see it displays the Saved items as shown below:
- Click on the Edit web part properties icon in the Saved for later web part, it will open the Saved for later web part properties panel.
- In the Properties pane of the Saved for later web part, we can see Source, Type, the maximum number of items to display, and also the Layout option like below:
Saved for Later – Source
- Under Source, there are two options either we can choose to display the saved items from All Saved items or we can select Saved items from this site option to display the saved items.
- All Saved items option display all the page viewers saved items in the Save for later web part.
- Saved items from this site option display the current users saved items in the Saved for later web part.
- Click Republish button to save your changes.
Saved for Later – Type
- In the type option, we can display the news and pages saved items in the Saved for later web part from the SharePoint site.
- When we select the type as All it displays all the saved items from the SharePoint site.
- When we select the type as Pages and news posts, it displays all the pages and news saved items.
- Type Document is no longer supported for the browser, only in the SharePoint Mobile App, we can save the documents using the save for later ribbon.
- Click Republish button to commit your changes.
- The maximum number of items that we can display in the Saved for later web part is 50.
- We can also hide the saved for later web part, if there is no content to display for that we have to check the hide this web part option.
Saved for Later – Layouts
There are two Layout options available for the Saved for later web part. They are,
- Grid Layout
- List Layout
