- Open the SharePoint site page where you want to create a custom list.
- Select site contents and then click on the + New and select List.
- Select Blank list. Name the custom list as per the requirement and then click Create.
- Now we can see a blank custom list is created as below:

Let us see how we can add the list web part in modern SharePoint,
- Go to the SharePoint site page where you want to add list of web parts to the SharePoint modern site page.
- Select Edit Page at the top right of the SharePoint site page.
- Click + circled icon then add a new Section layout.
- In the search box, enter the list and select the List web part.
- After adding the List Web Part, it automatically displays the Lists that are available on the SharePoint site page as shown below:
- Select the list from the drop-down, that you want to display on your SharePoint site page. Click on the Apply button.
- Under View, you can select the view from the drop-down as All items.
Here, you can also provide the folder name as well as the Size of the web part. I have given the Size as Autosize – fit to a number of items.
Apart from this, you can also choose the below options:
- Small – about 5 items
- Medium – about 15 items
- Large – about 30 items
- Select Republish to commit your changes.

Let us see how to remove see all options in SharePoint online list web part,
- Edit the SharePoint site page and select the list web part that you want to edit.
- In the property pane of the list web part at the right, Enable the Show “See all” toggle control.
- Click Apply to commit the changes. Select Republish
Now you cannot see the “see all” option in the list web part, which is removed.

- Click Apply to commit the changes. Select Republish

- Dynamic filtering filter by items selected in another list or library.
- With dynamic filtering, you can filter one list based on a selection made in another web part.
In this SharePoint online dynamic filtering list web part example, I have created a list as ‘Training Courses’ and a library as ‘ Courses’
- Now, edit the SharePoint site page and Select a two-column section to add the Document library web part and the list web part.
Now we can select the List and Document to add it to the web part,
Once added the document web part and list web part look as shown below:
- Select and edit the Document web part to apply the filter.
- In the property pane of the Document web part at the right, Under Dynamic filtering, slide the toggle to the On position.
Here we have to apply a filter on the Document Library web part so that when we select a list, it will list out the documents regarding the Selected list.
- Select the column you want to filter in the field Column in your list to filter.
- Under List or Library containing filter value, select the list or library you added to your SharePoint site page.
- Select the column that has the values you want to filter by under the Column containing the filter value.
- Select Apply.
- Select Republish at the top right of the page to save your changes.

We can increase the column width of the list and display it in the List web part of the SharePoint modern page, To achieve this, follow the below steps:
- Select Site contents from the SharePoint page, and select the list that you want to modify.
- Expand the column width, using the mouse.
- Select the Save View as an option to save the current view.
- Click the Save button.
Refresh the SharePoint online site page, and now we can see the SharePoint modern list web part column width has been increased as shown below;

- No, we cannot display the list in the list web part from another site on a modern SharePoint page.
List web part accordion in SharePoint online
Let us see how to show page sections in an accordion view on the SharePoint modern page.
- Open the SharePoint site page and choose Edit Page at the top right.
- Select the List web part section and hover your mouse, you’ll see an option to edit the list web part section.
- Enable the Make section as a collapsible group option in the List web part section. Once the section collapsible option is enabled, you can see another two options available in the section panel they are,
- If we want to show the divider line between two sections we can enable it.
- We can also assign Collapse/Expand icon alignment to Right or Left. By default, the section will be in the Expanded mode.
- Whenever you set the Expand/ Collapse icon alignment to the Left, the section displays as shown below:

Directly, it is not possible to create a Contact List Web Part in modern pages on a SharePoint online site.
There is an alternative way that we can do this. First, we have to create a contact list in a Classic SharePoint view and then we can configure the created contact list into the modern SharePoint list web part.
To achieve this, follow the below steps:
- Select Site contents and select Return to Classic SharePoint.
- In the SharePoint Classic view, Select add an app as shown below:
- In the search box, enter Contact to quickly find and then select the Contacts app.
- Name the Contact List and select Create.
- Now we can see the Contact list is created, Now select Exit Classic experience.
- On the Modern SharePoint page, click site contents to view the created Contact list as below:
- Open the contact list and Select + New to add a new item to the contact list. Click on the Save button.
Now we can see that the newly created item has been added to the list.
- Open the SharePoint site page where you want to add Contact list web parts to the SharePoint modern site page.
- If you’re not in edit mode already, choose Edit Page at the top right of the SharePoint site page.
- Click + circled icon then add a new Section layout.
- In the search box, enter the list to quickly find and select the List web part.
Once you select the created list, the web part displays the list item inside the list web part like below. Select Republish to commit your changes.

Let us discuss the list web part formatting in Modern SharePoint,
When you edit a list web part section in the SharePoint site page, in the properties pane you can see the Layout options and the section background shading.
- Under the Layout section, we can choose the layout option as per the scenario.
- We can also increase the list web part column width, mentioned above.
- Under the Section background Shading, we can choose the Shade that we want to display in the list web part section.
- Select the Section background shade and Click Republish.

In the modern SharePoint site page, users can view the selected list data dynamically, we can connect the list web part with the List Properties web part.
Follow the below steps to connect the List properties web part with the Source list:
- Edit the List properties web part section, click the ellipses (…), and ChooseConnect to the source option.
- Now we can select the list from the drop-down that we want to display in the list properties web part.
- In this example, I selected “Task list” as the Source list for the list properties web part.
- Once you select the Source list in the list properties web part. You can view that This web part is connected to the selected list, here it is Task List (highlighted in Red).

- Once the list properties web part is connected to the source list, you can select the fields that you want to display in the List properties web part.
- Under Select fields to display, we can select the fields checkbox to display the field items.
- Under the Size option, we can also choose the size of the list properties web part. In this example, I have given the Size as Autosize – fit to a number of items. Apart from this, you can also choose the below options:
- Small – about 5 items
- Medium – about 15 items
- Large – about 30 items
- Enable the toggle control to allow users to edit list items, else disable it.
- We also have an option to remove the connected source list. Select Remove the connection to remove it.
- You can see in the below example, that I have added the list web part left side and the list properties web part on the right side.
- Now select the list in the list web part. In the same way, connect the list web part to the list properties web part.
Now you can see the list is added in the list web part and also connected with the list properties web part as shown below. Click Save as draft and Republish to save your changes.
- In the below screenshot, we can see the selected list item data in detail on the list properties web part in the SharePoint site page.
- At a time, we can select only one list item in the list web part, so it displays the selected item data in the list properties web part.
