Restore database in sql server 2008 using management studio

In this article we will discuss about how to restore database using SQL Server 2008 management studio.

Before that you can check an article on How to Take backup in Sql server using management studio.

For this follow below steps:

First create a database by right click on database -> New database and from the new database dialogbox give a name (Here I have given AspDotNetHelp) and click on OK.

After creating database, Right click on the Database -> Task -> Restore -> Database as shown in the figure below.

This will open the Restore Database dialogbox. In the dialogbox To database, select the database ( AspDotNetHelp) to which you want to restore. Then from the specify the source and location of backup sets to restore, select from device. And there select the backup file. For the click on the … button and this will open the Specify Backup and there click on Add as shown in the figure below:


After click on Ok, and then select both checkboxes as shown in the figure below: Before click on Ok, go through the Step-5.

In that dialogbox click on Options and select the checkbox Overwrite the existing database (WITH REPLACE) and click on OK. And after that click on OK in step-4.
