Restore database in sql server 2008 using management studio

In this article, we will discuss how to restore the database using the SQL Server 2008 management studio.

Before that, you can check an article on How to Take a backup in Sql server using management studio.

For this follow the below steps:

First, create a database by right click on the database -> New database and from the new database dialogbox give a name (Here I have given AspDotNetHelp) and click on OK.

After creating a database, Right click on the Database -> Task -> Restore -> Database as shown in the figure below.

This will open the Restore Database dialogbox. In the dialogbox To database, select the database ( AspDotNetHelp) to which you want to restore. Then from the specify the source and location of backup sets to restore, select from the device. And there select the backup file. For the click on the … button and this will open the Specify Backup and there click on Add as shown in the figure below:


After clicking on Ok, and then select both checkboxes as shown in the figure below: Before click on Ok, go through the Step-5.

In that dialogbox click on Options and select the checkbox Overwrite the existing database (WITH REPLACE) and click on OK. And after that click on OK in step-4.
