To achieve this, follow the steps below.

1. Navigate to https://make.powerautomate.com in your browser to open the Power Automate home page. Click on + Create -> Select the Automated cloud flow -> Provide the flow name and choose the trigger’s flow (When an item is created or modified) -> Click on Create.

Provide all the required details in this trigger, as shown below.

  • Site Address: Provide the specific SharePoint site address.
  • List Name: Select the name of the SharePoint list.

2. Next, add the ‘Initialize variable‘ flow action to create and set a variable’s initial value.

Set the details of the variable.

  • Name: Provide the name of the initialized variable.
  • Type: Select the type of variable as String.
  • Value: Here, I have given ‘Employee Name’ from Dynamic content.

3. Then add the ‘Compose’ flow action to convert the employee name values into uppercase using the toUpper() function.

4. Now, add the ‘Update item’ flow action to update the SharePoint column (Employee Name As Per Data).

Ensure that you provide the remaining details like Site Address, List Name, Id, Title.

  • Employee Name As Per Data: Select ‘Output’ of the compose action from dynamic content.

Once the flow is created, click Save and Test. Run the flow manually.

5. Open the SharePoint Online list, then it will display the output after updating the Employee’s Name As Per Data in uppercase, as shown below.

In this example, I will discuss using the Power Automate toUpper() function by creating an Instant cloud flow that gets triggered manually.

Consider, I have taken a text with a country name as ‘Australia‘. Then, the result will be like ‘AUSTRALIA‘.

To achieve this, follow the steps below.

1. Open the Power Automate home page by browsing https://make.powerautomate.com, click on + Create -> Select the Instant cloud flow -> Enter the flow name and choose your trigger’s flow (Manually trigger the flow), then click on Create.

2. To store the text value during the flow, add the ‘Initialize variable’ flow action.

Set all the details.

  • Name: Enter the name of the initialized variable.
  • Type: Select the variable as a String.
  • Value: Here, I have given ‘Australia’ as the value.

3. Next, add the ‘Compose’ flow action to convert the given string into uppercase using the toUpper() function.
