This SharePoint tutorial explains how to set permissions in SharePoint Online or SharePoint 2013/2016 sites.
We will also discuss how we can edit permissions in SharePoint groups and also how we can check user permissions in SharePoint Online or in SharePoint 2013/2016/2019.
Step 1: Login to your SharePoint site -> Go to the Settings gear icon in the right side of the page -> Click on Site settings.
Step 2: Click on site permissions under user and permissions .
Step 3: When you click on site permissions, you will redirect to the user.aspx page where you can find all groups along with SharePoint users.
Step 4: If you want to add any users in a group then open any of the group and add the user as below screenshot. Next click on Share button so that the newly added user will receive an email confirmation.
Step 1: Select the SharePoint group which you want to modify, then click on Edit user permissions on top of the button.
Step 2: Next check the required permissions and click on OK to confirm.
Step 1: We can easily check user permissions in SharePoint sites. Click on Check permissions in top of the link.
Step 2: Next enter your User Name or any other user name to find the user in which group.
Step 3: Next it will show the details groups name where the same user is present.
Now, we will see how to give permission to SharePoint 2010 site.
First of all, you can see this page for more information on how many different permission levels available in SharePoint.
Also, you can add users to different groups to the site or also you can remove users from the SharePoint groups. To add users go to Site Actions ->Sit Permissions as shown in the figure below.
This will open the Permissions page as shown in the figure below.
Here you can see groups like Members, Owners, Visitors, Viewers etc. In the ribbon, there are options to give permissions to users, also options to create group etc. Also, you can add users to existing groups.
To grant permissions, click on the Grant Permissions link from the Ribbon which will open the Grant Permission dialog as shown in the figure below:
Here in the Select Users add the user and in the Grant Permissions section you can add the above user to any existing user group by selecting the first radio button or you can you can also grant permission directly by choosing the 2nd radio button.
And in the Send E-Mail section, If you want to send a welcome main then you can check the Send Welcome mail check box and also you can add your personal message. Then click on OK.
If you want to add users to existing permissions group then click on the group on which you want to add user as shown in the figure below.
This will open the user group page. There to add a new user click on the New -> Add Users as shown in the figure below.
This will open of the Grant Permissions dialog as show in the figure below:
In this dialog add the username and you can add any number of users and Send E-Mail section you can select the checkbox to send the email to the user and also you can write the personal message also.
