Microsoft is coming up with Skype for Business as an enterprise communication tool, so they are rebranding Lync. Skype for business will have an updated user interface and other features like IM, presence, video, location, voice.
Any customers using Windows with Office 2013 will have the changes reflected in the next scheduled update. This also migrates the contact list.
If the changes are reflecting in your windows OS means, that must have been coming from the updates provided by Microsoft.

I have tried to install lots of updates, but it gave the same error. Finally, I installed the below update and then restarted the machine and it worked fine.
