In the first part, we will discuss how we can download and install SQL Server 2014 and then we will see how we can install SQL Server 2014 SP1.
Download SQL server 2014
To install SQL Server 2014, first, download the SQL Server 2014 from this MSDN Link. Since we are installing SQL Server 2014 for SharePoint 2016, we have downloaded and installed the 64-bit version.
Install SQL Server 2014
Once you download, click on the setup file to start the installation and follow below steps given:
Go to the SQL installation center and then click on the “New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation”.
In this “New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation”, it will extract here and a SQL server 2014 Setup will open. In this setup, put a check on the check box of “I accept the license terms” and then click on next as given in the figure.
In “Global Rules”, here the rule check in progress as shown in given below. Make sure it will show the successful status, if any errors are there, we need to fix before proceeding.
In “Microsoft Update”, here you can optionally select the checkbox to check for the update and click next.
In “Install Setup Files”, it will show you that the update will be installed as below.
In “Feature Selection”, check all the ‘Instance Features’ are checked or not. If not then put a check on that and click on next.
In “Feature Rules” section, make sure all the rules status should be passed. You can see the below screen shot, there is an issue with Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 service pack 1 is required. We need to fix the issue before proceeding further. You can follow this article to fix the issue. And then you can click on Re-run button to recheck again. Once the operation will be completed and both the status shows Success, click on next.
In “Instance Configuration”, select the ‘Default instance’ and click next as below in the figure.
In “Server Configuration”, go to the ‘Service Accounts’ and select the ‘SQL Server Database Engine’ as Automatic Start up Type and then click to next.
In “Database Engine Configuration”, click on ‘Server Configuration’ and select the ‘Mixed Mode (SQL server authentication and Windows authentication)’. After that enter your password in ‘Enter password’ and again re-enter your password to confirm in ‘Confirm password’ and click on next.
In the “Installation Progress”, here the installation will happen and it will complete after some time as shown in the given below.
Hence we installed the SQL server 2014 in windows server 2016 by using these several steps which are mentioned in above. Now we will discussed about how we can install sql server 2014 SP1.
Download SQL server 2014 SP1 (Service Pack 1)
To install of SQL Server 2014 SP1, first download SQL Server 2014 SP1 from this MSDN URL. And then click on the exe file and follow below steps for installation.
Install SQL Server 2014 SP1
In “License Terms”, select the check box of ‘I accept the license terms’ and click on next.
In the “Select Features”, select ‘MSSQLSERVER’ (if not selected), and then click on next as given in the figure.
In “Check Files in Use”, here files are checking until it is not completing. Once the checking files is done then click to next.
In “Ready to update”, the file path is configuring. After configuration the file path, go to update and click that as shown in the figure.
In the “Update Progress”, here the ‘MSSQLSERVER’ is updating. After updating, click on next.
In the “Install Setup Files”, here the update will be installed as shown in the below and the installation will be done.
Once the installation over, you will be able to open the sql server 2014 management studio.
