How to create a new user in windows server 2016

This tutorial will discuss, how to create a user in windows server 2016 active directory. We will see how to add a user to the administrator group in windows server 2016.

We will see what are the groups, the user belongs to in windows server 2016. The same way we can create a new user in windows server 2012 R2.

Create new user in windows server 2016

Open window server 2016 and click on Server Manager. In the Server Manager page click on Tools and then click on Active Directory Users and Computers.

In Active Directory Users and Computers page, expand the domain, here “tsinfo.com”. Then right-click on Users -> New -> User like below:

Then in the New Object – User Screen we need to fill the details like First name, Initials, Last name, Full name, User, logon name, etc. like below:

Then it will ask to enter Password and Confirm password. Here I have chosen “Password never expires” so that the password will never expire.

You can also choose other options like “User must change password at next logon”/User cannot change password etc.

Next it will show you the confirmation message like below, whatever we have added in previous steps:

Once you click on Finish, you can see the user getting created.

Now we will see how we can add users to various groups.

Windows Server 2016 add a user to the administrator group

Now we can see how to add the users to various groups including the administrator group. To add the users to various groups.

Right-click on the user and then click on “Add to group…” like below:

Then in the Select Groups dialog box, enter the group name and then click on the “Check Names” button. Here I have added to “Domain Admins” and then click on OK.

Then you can see it will show a successful message like “The Add to Group operation was successfully completed.”

This way you will be able to add users to group.

Check User Belongs to which Groups in Windows Server 2016

We can also check what are the groups the user belongs to. To check this, Right click on the user and then click on “Properties”.

Then in the Properties dialog box, click on Member Of tab and then you can see all the groups, the user a part of like below:
