In this Power BI Tutorial, we are going to explore how to Connect to a specific file from the SharePoint site in Power Bi.
This is the scenario where I have some files in a SharePoint site inside a Shared Document’s document library. I just want Power Bi to pick the single file in order to process the data and form the beautiful reports.
Now as you are seeing below, I have opened the file inside SharePoint and click on the Open in the Power BI Desktop App.
You will be prompted below message; you need to click Open Excel.
Once its opened click on the File menu and go to Info and select Copy Path to clipboard as shown below.
Now we need this copied path so save to Notepad and discard ?web=1 from the URL and copy it back.
So, now we need to open the Microsoft Power BI desktop tool and in order to get data from a folder we need to click here Get Data down and I choose the Web option and click the folder.
Paste the copied URL and hit OK.
It will open the selected file as shown below, here one thing you need to understand is that since I have already connected to SharePoint, that’s why I have not prompted the Access issue.
If you are using the SharePoint URL for the first time, then do provide Credentials and connect to the site.
Now if you are OK with the existing contents you can hit Load otherwise select Edit and make changes into Query Editor.
Once we select Load it will load the data into Power BI, as shown below. Now we can provide some meaning full name to the Data like interest rates.
Finally, we will process this data to form a beautiful report by selecting fields and visuals like below.
