Azure Storage Backup Tutorial

Azure storage backup is the Azure service that allows you to backup (or protect) and restore your data in the Microsoft cloud.

Azure Backup offers the following options: Backup for Azure virtual machines and local servers.

The prices listed below are applicable when you use one of the following components to back up your virtual machines or physical servers: backup of Azure IaaS virtual machines, the Azure Backup agent (MARS), System Center DPM, or Microsoft Azure Backup Server (MABS).

The size of the backed up data determines the pricing for Azure Backup in each protected instance with compression and encryption.

For virtual machines, the size calculation is based on the actual (used) size of the virtual machine. It is the sum of all data stored on the virtual machine, excluding temporary storage.

When backing up files and folders, the size configured for them determines the size of the data.

When backing up SQL Server, the size of the databases configured for backup determines the size of the data. You can select either redundant storage (LRS) and geo-redundant storage (GRS). LRS and GRS are both parts of Block Blob Storage. Storage fees are separate from the cost of Azure Backup.

  • Instance less than or equal to 50 GB 4.2165 € + storage used.
  • Instance greater than 50 GB but less than or equal to 500 GB € 8,433 + storage used.
  • Instance greater than 500 GB € 8,433 for each 500 GB increment + storage used.

Example: if you have 1.2 TB of data in a specific instance, the cost corresponds to € 25.30 plus the storage consumed. You will be billed € 8.44 which is for two 500 GB increments and of course for € 8.44 which cost is for the remaining of 200 GB of data.

Azure Backup storage

Azure Backup uses block blob storage to back up your instances. You can choose to select either of the two, which are locally redundant storage (LRS) and geo-redundant storage (GRS). LRS and GRS are both parts of Block Blob Storage.

Azure Storage For Files

Azure Files allows you to configure highly available network file shares that are accessible using the standard Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. This means that multiple virtual machines can share the same files with reading and write access. You can also view files using the REST interface or the client storage libraries.

What sets Azure Files apart from files on an enterprise file share is being able to access files from anywhere in the world, using a URL that points to the file and includes a token. shared access signature (SAP). You can generate SAP tokens, which allow specific access to a private resource for a defined period of time.

File shares can be used in many common scenarios:

For example, many local applications use file shares. This feature simplifies the migration of these applications that share data to Azure. If you mount file sharing on the same drive letter as that used by the local application, the part of your application that accesses file sharing should work, with very few changes to make (if any).

Configuration files can be stored on a file share and are accessible from multiple virtual machines. The tools and utilities used by multiple developers in a group can be stored on a file share, ensuring that everyone can find them and that they are using the same version.

Diagnostic logs, measurements, and crash dumps are three examples of data that can be written to a file share and further processed or analyzed

Till date, access control lists (ACLs) and Active Directory-based authentication are not supported but will be in the future. Storage account credentials are used for file share access authentication. This means that anyone with the mounted share will have full read / write access to the share.

Azure storage Files offers shares to secure files on the cloud, fully managed, and based on SMEs, which can also be cached on the site for reasons of performance and compatibility.

Microsoft has launched larger, low-latency file share previews with higher IOPS and throughput, and Azure Active Directory integration. Available in two versions: Standard files (updated from existing Standard files) and Premium (new).

Azure File Sync is now available to everyone. Azure File Sync allows you to centralize your file services in Azure while maintaining local access to your data. Azure File Sync takes up the challenge of finding a balance between the need for local and fast access to frequently accessed data and the costs of maintenance and time to manage on-site storage.

Microsoft has announced the public preview of authentication in Azure Active Directory for SME access to Azure Files using Azure AD Domain Services (AAD DS).

Data storage It is always a sensitive subject for businesses. How to store the data? Where to store them? How to secure them? Azure Storage makes it very easy to store data as files or as a “computer object”.

This data can be used by the other services of the platform or any authorized person and/or service. The creation of a Service Bus which will be responsible for receiving orders and keeping them in its queue. The website, like the mobile application, will place each order on this bus. Interests: If a third business application is created, it will be in the same usage scenario, no modification will be necessary.

The creation of an App Service which will be in charge of removing the queue from the bus in order to process orders one by one to integrate them into the third party system. This App can operate in real-time, that is to say, that with each new command inserted in the queue, the application wakes up and processes it.

The creation of a business rule (function) that would allow any tool with permissions (websites, App Service or even business applications), to access the price of a given item.

This example is particularly interesting since it illustrates well the simplified centralization in a single point of strategic information which can be exploited by multiple tools and supports. If we go back a few years, setting up this type of architecture could be complicated and required a lot of material resources. Today Microsoft provides us with innovative and accessible tools that allow us to deploy complex systems more easily.

With Azure, we can focus on real business rules without coming up against the purely technical aspects of such an implementation. Less time to spend, less money to spend.
