Automate Server Inventory Reports


This section describes the purpose and audience of this guide. Any terminology or acronyms used in this document will be referenced in the Glossary of the Appendix section.


The intent of this Servers Inventory Reports helps an administrator to trace the Servers inventory information.


This technical instruction applies to the SCCM Delivery Team. This work instruction does not cover tasks which are the responsibility of any other team.


  1. No License.
  2. Tool is created using Windows PowerShell (Integrated in Windows Operating System).
  3. To avoid unauthorized person to modify this tool, converted to Executable file.


Tool will collect the Servers inventory information remotely and generate the reports as per the task scheduler.


  1. We can avoid manual human efforts and time reduction to track the Servers inventory reports.
  2. Tool will helps us when we are upgrading anything on Servers.
  3. Servers Assets information can be managed in centralized Place.
  4. Servers installed application audit reports.


  1. Separate service account or System Account is needed to execute this Servers Inventory Reports tool.
  2. Service account should be member of local administrator group on all Servers and read access required on Top level SCCM Database Server.
  3. SMTP access required only for Email notification alert (Optional).
  4. Internet Information Services required only on Top Level SCCM Site Server for centralized Web Portal (Optional).
  5. Windows 2008 Server Operating System or higher version with minimum PowerShell version 2.0 or higher version.

How does it works

Windows PowerShell tool takes an input from Config XML file and it start Checks the Servers Inventory information. Finally tool will generate an HTML file along with all status then send an email notification alert to receipts email groups.

Important note

  1. Test this tool on test environment before implementing to production environment. You will get an idea how that tool is working on Server.
  2. While executing this tool, tool will always generate a log file with same file name in same Log folder path.
  3. If tool is not working as expected, Log file will tell you why the tool is not executed properly.
