How to add a web part to a page in SharePoint

Add web part to a SharePoint Online modern page

Open any modern SharePoint site or any page, then click on the Edit button like below:

Then click on the + icon, and then you can see the web parts and then select any web part like below:

Then you can modify the web part like below and click on the Republish button, to publish the page.

This is how we can add a web part to a page in SharePoint Online modern sites or modern page.

Add a web part to SharePoint Online/2013/2016 classic web part page

Now, we will see how to add a web part page to a SharePoint 2013/2016 classic web part page in SharePoint.

Open SharePoint Online or SharePoint 2013/2016 classic web part page, and then edit the page. You can edit the page from the Settings icon -> click on Edit page option or you can also click on the PAGE tab in the SharePoint web part page Ribbon, which will open the web part page in the edit mode.

Once you Edit page, you can see various web part zone in SharePoint. Click on Add a Web Part link.

This will open the web part categories section, from where you can add web parts into this.

You can click on the Stop Editing button to save the web part page. This is how we can add a web part to a SharePoint 2013/2016 classic web part page.

Add web part in web page SharePoint 2010

Now, I will show you how to add an out of box web part to a SharePoint 2010 web part page. First Open the SharePoint site and Navigate to the page where you want to add the web part. Then from the Site Actions -> Edit Page. or also you can directly click on the Edit icon to edit the page as shown in the figure below:

The above step will open the page in Edit Mode. Now From the RIbbon from the Editing Tools section click on Insert and then click on WebPart as shown in the figure below:

The above step will show you all the web parts category wise. From there select any web part. Here I am selecting a Content Editor web part from the Media and Content Category. After that click on Add as shown in the figure below:

Once you will click on Add the web part will be placed in the SharePoint 2010 web part page.
