In this post we will discuss how to generate a private test certificate which we will be used while creating sharepoint hosted apps. While creating a sharepoint hosted app we need to give the certificate in certificate location.

Below steps to create private test certificate:
Open IIS manager (start -> run -> types Inetmgr and then press Enter.) Expand the ServerName mode. And then double click on the "Server Certificate" icon. Then click on "Create Self-Signed Certificate..." as shown in the fig below.
In the Create Self-Signed Certificate dialog box, Specify a friendly name for the certificate as shown in the fig below.
Now right click on the certificate and click on Export. Enter the Export to with File location and name. Then give a password and click on OK.
Then double click on the certificate, this will open the Certificate dialog box. Then click on Details tab and then click on Copy to File... as shown in the fig below.
This will open the Certificate Export Wizard, click on Next and select the default selection (No)
and then Click on Next. Click Next. The give the file name and browser the path where you want to save then click on Next. Then click on Finish. Then the .cer file will be generated.
