In this post we will discuss how to configure site access request in sharepoint 2013 site. This is a new feature in SharePoint 2013 through which users can easily request access to a specific site by using the new site access request feature.

To configure access request for a site, open the site in the browser. Then got to Settings -> Site Settings and then under Users and permissions click on "Site permissions" link. In the Site permission page, Click on PERMISSIONS tab then Manage and then click on "Access Request Settings" link from the ribbon as shown in the fig below:
Now in the Access Request Settings dialog box, select the "Allow access requests" check box. Then enter the email address of the person to whom the access requests should go whenever a user request for access.
Now whenever a user who does not have access to the site try to open the site s/he will redirected to the Request for Access page. There you can input why you need access to the site. And then click on Send Request button. Once the request has been sent, the access request page shows an "Awaiting approval" message to the user.

It will show message like below if it is waiting for approval.
Now as a approver you login to the site and then go to Site Settings and then under Users and Permissions click on "Access requests and invitations" link. As a administrator you will be able to see the site.
There you will be able to see all the access requests. You can click on any item (...) and there you have the option to Approve or Reject the Access Request. Check the fig below how to approve.
Once approved then the user will be able to logged in like below:
