In this article we will discuss about how to configure email settings in SharePoint 2010
at farm level. Also we will see how we can configure using stsadm tool.
Configure outgoing e-mail setting in farm level Central Administration:
To configure e-mail settings from the farm level, follow below steps:
Open SharePoint 2010 Central Administration. Make sure you belongs to a farm administrator group.
From the Central Administration click on System Settings as shown in the figure below:
From the E-Mail and Text Messages (SMS) section click on Configure outgoing e-mail settings as shown in the figure below:
This will open the E-Mail settings page. In this page give the outbound server name like mail.domainname.com, the from address and the reply to address. And the click on Ok as shown in the figure below:
This finished our email settings for farm level.
Configure outgoing e-mail setting in farm level STSADM tool:
To configure outgoing e-mail using STSADM tool follow below steps:
Open command prompt in Administrator mode (Go to Start type cmd and then right click on cmd and click Run as Administrator).
- Then in the command prompt navigate to Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\14\BIN (for SharePoint 2010).
Run the below command to configure:
stsadm -o email
-outsmtpserver <SMTP server name>
-fromaddress <valid e-mail address>
-replytoaddress <valid e-mail address>
-codepage <valid code page>
stsadm -o email -outsmtpserver mail.example.com -fromaddress firstname.lastname@example.org -replytoaddress email@example.com -codepage 65001
